“Every woman should fight for her own rights and seek justice”- Shefali Sharma

Simple and pretty Bani aka Shefali Sharma speaks about the necessary steps on which women should act upon to tackle the issues like domestic violence and the prevalence of NRI marriages.

Nowadays it seems that there’s a trend on TV wherein the makeover of the lead actresses is taking place in order to give another twist in the storyline of the show. One such character which got transformed recently was Bani. The simple and down to earth girl changes her identity and becomes Maya thus to avenge from her husband Parmeet (Gaurav Chaudhary) in the show Bani – Ishq Da Kalma who torchers her and also assaults her. Bani’s character also goes through domestic violence.

Seen in the glamorous look as Maya, Bani has comeback to teach Parmeet a lesson and also to make him aware about her importance. As the shows’ concept is based on the abandoned NRI marriages, we asked Shefali Sharma about her views on the violence which is still prevalent in our country.

Here is Shefali talking about the same.

Shefali believes in acting upon the crime and says that women should not tolerate such crimes. In fact women should speak up for themselves and try to curb such crimes, “Those women should take a step against the heinous crime like domestic violence. Until women don’t take any appropriate step to stop violence, these men will continue to commit the crime. Thus aurton ko step uthana chahiye darna nai chahiye jaise Bani nai darri. Bani has come back as Maya and I am not telling you to become Maya but at least if one hand is raised on you, you also raise your hand and if you don’t want to raise hand then at least stop them and hold their hand so that they will think twice before harming any women and assaulting them.”

Coming to the show Bani Ishq Da Kalma which focuses on the issue of NRI marriages where the girl is abandoned by the groom once they are married and fly abroad to settle down along with their family, the actress adds that in the show as well Bani has come to seek justice from her husband, “In the show Bani has come back as Maya to fight for her rights but this is not possible in real life. So I believe that if such situation occurs in real life, then the girls should either have the strength to tolerate the violence and should have the guts to change their husband’s mentality. Or if they feel that their patience level is over, then they should leave their husband instead of facing violence for no reason and can move ahead with a new beginning.”

According to Shefali modern generation is creating these problems as they want to be completely independent in living their lives rather than relying on their partner, “Today’s generation doesn’t understand the feelings and emotions like the previous generation. Today you will find that even husband and wife don’t understand each other and end up saying you live life and I will live my life’. I believe that this thinking will definitely be a cause of the worry for our modern generation in future.”

Well said Shefali! We wish you all a very Happy Women’s Day!
